  1. Who did the site update Looks Great!!!

    • Thanks for the kudos, Mike. I’ve been thinking for a while that a “refresh” was overdue. The hardest part is getting fresh, updated content on a timely basis. Have to depend on the members for that.
My favorite are the website history links.
Let me know if you have any ideas or corrections.
      Happy Holidays, –Larry

  2. I'm having trouble paying my club dues via Pay-Pal. The direct link on the site takes me to Pay-Pal but has no club payment information. A little help?

    • Sorry for the issue, Mike, must have broken as I transitioned to WordPress. I’ll get that link resolved.
      Happy New Year,
      –Larry Solheim, webmaster

You  can see the film here on Vimeo. I hope you like it! (Digitally scanned and remastered).

  11. A note about the Pontiac Moon car.  There were actually 4 used in the movie, painted blue and with special blue/white interior.  Mine (the one on the site), was not the only one but was authenticated by Gordons, who was involved in preparing the vehicles.  It has since been sold since that picture and restored back to original specifications.  I just want it clear that I didn't claim to have had the only one. – AZP

  12. Sometimes when we hit a pothole we get a shimmy. Can anyone tells us what might be causing the shimmy?

    Thanks!

    • Check your steering box mounting frame.  It's a weak point and many develop cracks.  Have someone turn the steering wheel left and right a bit while you watch the steering box for movement.  The box should not move.  If it does, get it welded and add fabricate a brace.  A simple 1/4 x 1/2 steel bar from a steering box bolt to solid point under the gas tank will suffice.  Check around on the website for designs.  —Ken Chambers

  13. Looking to buy Amphicar. Any condition any year. For my wife our 35th wedding anniversary  call or text. 513-400-0790

  14. My Dad was an automobile dealer in Joplin, Mo during the middle of the 20th Century. He traded for almost anything of value and eventually we wound up with an 'Amphicar.' The car was a trade-in from a barber who had painted the Personal Name on the back fin: "YANKEE CLIPPER"!  This vehicle was absolute joy! We often drove it down to a nearby park / with a huge creek and motored directly into the water. The big splash produced a shoreline full of screaming people – who after we started the 'boat motor'  – always began laughing and cheering as we headed off down-stream towards the Falls!
Year later, a friend bought another Amphicar in Branson, Mo. We were going to boat between Branson and Rockaway Beach and ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere! A fisherman – with a long rope / and eventually a full billfold (HA!) - pulled us on to Rockaway. Our friends patiently awaited, having thought we had sunk. This would have been in the mid to late 1970s. The car proved to be a fine investment – once it had a bit of gasoline!
Sadly, I just saw a new book at Barnes & Noble last evening that should be noted by readers of this site. It was about 'the worst autos ever built.' (Sorry – I don't recall the exact title.)  The Amphicar was featured on the front cover. We never had any trouble with our car — and I don't believe my friend had any problems with his; So I feel justified when I turned all of the stack of these new editions FACE DOWN there at the store! We liked the amphicars and I wish I had one today!

  15. Does anybody know if the people in the international amphicar sight still get comments in there E-mail or are we using this sight now?? or am I off the list???

  19. I am looking for some information. I am trying to licence an amphibious Dutton Commander in Missouri. Do the Amphicars have 2 titles, one for a car and one for a boat or if only one title, how is it registered for both ? The DMV is telling me that the only amphibious vehicals that are leagle for road use have to carry more than 8 passingers or carrgo, ie the Ducks. I am sure I have seen Amphicars here in Missouri, How are they licensed ? Thanks, Joe

    • It depends on the State, Joe, but I can't speak to MO.  Typically licensing is not an issue, but if you have problems you will  have to find a knowledgeable person in the State Licensing bureaucracy.  It is always easier for the uninformed to say "no".

There are some Missouri vanity plates shown on the 'pl8tes' page and we have a member who restores Amphicars in Missouri who could give you good information.  If you are a member, check the roster.

       Good luck.  –Larry
