Their Amphicar is a nice example of a
little used Amphi. It just needs 2 more original tires for the front. I
took this photo on the way to Celina 2006. |

M Koç MüzesiHasköy Cad No. 27 Hasköy 80320 Istanbul, Turkey The Museum's General Manager A.J. Phillipson writes: "We have
nearly 40 cars in total including this 1961 model Amphicar, but have
little information on its history. We also have numerous full size
exhibits such as marine and land steam engines, railway locomotives,
aircraft and ships, together with a superb display of models. A mention on
your web site would be appreciated, in case any Amphicar enthusiasts are
thinking of visiting Turkey!" |

Rather cleverly, they have parked the rear of the car towards the
stairway so that one can see the props as one descends the stairs. |

Harold E. LeMay Museum423 East 152nd Street Tacoma, Washington After years of planning and hard-work of so many, Harold LeMay's dream of a museum where others can come and enjoy this breathtaking collection is finally becoming a reality. He wanted a venue which would allow the public to view and enjoy this collection, from car aficionados to schoolchildren, and everyone in between.
It will be the largest automobile and transportation museum in the world,
with nearly 500,000 feet of gallery, display and storage space. Shown
above is a 1964 Amphicar with the Serial Number 101716 from its vast collection. |

Mark-Peter Brandt writes from Cologne, Germany: I shot these three photos in Kneippbyn, a small village only 3 miles south Visby, the capital of the Swedish Island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea. Here is an English translation of the Swedish text of the third photo: AMPHICAR 1964 Amphibious car which can go on both water and land. Made between
1961-1968 in Berlin by an American company and with an English Triumph
motor in the rear. It has got 4 cylinders and 1.2 liters cubic-capacity.
The two props give it a top speed of 6.5 knots. On land 110 km/h [70 mph].
In the lake it is steered by the wheel. Equipped with double bilge pumps.
Drove between Gotland and mainland [distance: more than 50 miles] and
cross the English Channel. This one belonged to a movie company.

returned from Doc's Classic Car and Cycle Museum, a fun addition to Doc's
Harley-Davidson, in Bonduel, Wisconsin, where owner Stephen Hopkins has a
gorgeous restored Amphicar that can often be spotted on Shawano Lake in
the summer. His museum was great. He has a fun collection of
treasures, all housed in the front of a 1938 Standard Station that he
dismantled and moved to the site of his business. Makes me want one!" |

Science & Technology Museum1867 St. Laurent Blvd. Ottawa, Ontario K1G 5A3 Canada Tel. (613) 991-3044 Graham Hurst writes, "Years ago my father donated our family's Amphicar to the Canada Science and Technology Museum. It is in the museum collection, but it is not on display..."
"The museum also has the owner's manual, maintenance manual, and
advertisements. This was the 2nd Amphicar sold in Canada (the first
in the province of Ontario). As a publicity stunt for the dealership (Amphi
Motors in Toronto), two women crossed Lake Ontario in it. My father bought it
new and owned it until it was transferred to the Canada Science and Technology
Museum. We used it for daily transport from 1960 through 1966. Cheers, Graham
Hurst." |
